Mr. Don Miller has 30 years experience managing, conducting, and performing with Navy bands in 48 states and 94 countries throughout the world.

Don was the leader of the Pacific Fleet Navy jazz band in Hawaii; served as Assistant Leader of the U.S. Navy Show Band East jazz ensemble and as the leader of the Atlantic Fleet contemporary music group in Norfolk, Virginia.  He also served as the assistant leader of the U.S. Navy Steel Band and director of the ceremonial band, wind ensemble, and jazz band in New Orleans, Louisiana; and served as assistant director to the Navy Bands in Naples, Italy, Newport, Rhode Island, and New Orleans.  As a clinician, he provided master classes in instrumental performance at schools throughout the United States, and adjudicated Department of Defense Dependent Schools solo and ensemble music festivals in Italy.

Mr. Miller performed for five U.S. Presidents and numerous other high ranking diplomatic and consular representatives, performed on radio and television, and played with such notable musicians as Aaron Neville, Mike Vax, Johnny Brown, John Allmark, Del Courtney, and Gary Smulyan.  Additionally, he performed at the Newport Jazz Fest and at the New Orleans Jazz Fest.  His musical arrangements and compositions are performed by several musical organizations in the United States and abroad and appear on compact disk recordings.  Additionally, he is the author of "Performance Standards for Musicians," the Navy musician's job performance qualification standards program for all fleet musicians.

Mr. Miller is a graduate of the Armed Forces School of Music, Little Creek, Virginia and the Senior Enlisted Academy, Newport, Rhode Island.  He has a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College, Albany, New York and Master of Arts in Teaching Comprehensive Education in Music K-12 from Western Carolina University.  He also holds professional membership in the Music Educators National Conference.

In addition to teaching, Don enjoys performing with a local rhythm and blues band, boating, and family time.  He and his wife Lisa live in Sylva with their dog and cat.
