Steps to Take for Admittance into the Graduate
Music Program at Western Carolina University
This is your step-by-step guide to make sure you have
done
everything necessary to be fully admitted into our graduate music program:
- Apply as early as possible. Application forms
and catalogs for graduate
studies may be obtained calling the music office or by writing to:
Office of the Graduate School
Western Carolina University
Cullowhee, NC 28723-9022
Phone (828) 227-7398.
- Have your official transcripts sent to the graduate school.
Your application cannot be processed without them. These should
be sent directly from your previous university or college and come in a sealed envelope with an unbroken school seal. You must have an undergraduate degree in music, with an average grade
of B or higher in the last 60 semester hours of the undergraduate program.
- Take the General Test of the GRE and have the testing agency send the scores directly to the graduate school.
- Submit three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar enough
with your work to be able to assess the appropriateness of further graduate
study. Forms are available from the Graduate School.
- Schedule an audition. We normally have two official auditions days in the
spring semester. However, special arrangements can be made if you are unable
to audition on one of the official dates. Follow this link to see the audition
requirements for your
area of interest.
