JUNIOR QUALIFYING EXAMINATION

During the fourth semester of voice study (MUS 257) students must perform a Junior Qualifying Examination.  This performance consists of no less than 15 minutes of memorized music and should be performed during the 2 o'clock student recital.  The literature for this performance must contain French, German, Italian and English languages, and must include all of the following eras: Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century.  One selection must be an aria from an opera or oratorio.

This performance is critical for all singers as it reflects the final check/evaluation point prior to the upperclass recitals.  This performance is adjudicated, and the faculty panel renders judgment as to whether this student may continue on her/his study as a voice major.  This is also the performance which determines whether or not a student may enter the BA Applied Concentration.

NOTE:  The Junior Qualifying Examination is the only required public performance for those students enrolled in the BA General and BA Music Industry degrees.
